Lila Nash graduated from the college and is working as a prosecutor under the Hennepin County Attorney. If you read The Life We Bury, you know that she was raped when when she was in high school and this memory has made her struggle. When a woman is pulled from the Mississippi River, barely alive, things take a personal turn for Lila.
The police suspects Gavin Spencer, who is a local photographer, as the woman’s assailant, but the case quickly flounders as the evidence wears thin.
How does the police solve the puzzle? Is Gavin truly innocent? Is he involved with Lila’s case as well? This book was tense and thrilling.

ある時、ミシシッピ川から半生半死の女性が見つかります。この事件の犯人を探し出し、裁判にかける仕事にリラは携わることになります。これが自分の過去の事件に再び目を向けることになるとは、考えてもいません。
犯人としてあがってきたギャビン・スペンサー。警察は、彼が今回の殺人未遂事件、そして過去にあった殺人事件の犯人だと絞り込みますが、決定的な証拠が見つかりません。一体どうやってギャビンを有罪にするための証拠を集めるのか、リラのレイプ事件の主犯者は誰だったのか。手に汗握る一冊です。
