I was unable to find the address for the parking lot. However, if you enter “Shades of Death Trail” into Google Maps, the directions will lead you right to the parking lot at the trailhead.
This hiking course is about 2.2 miles (3.5 km)in total, with almost no elevation gain, making it a carefree hike. Even with small children, you should be able to do the whole thing in a half-day. But, if you are looking for a hike to get your heartrate up, this one might leave you unsatisfied.
The best part about this trail is the scenery. The trail follows a river, and there are some waterfalls to see along the way. The trail is not so wide, and it can get pretty crowded, so you can expect to cross paths with a good number of other hikers. There is a tunnel made by trees, a rock-lined staircase, and a campground near the end of the trail that has a playground in a wide-open space. However, it is a little tricky to figure out where the trail actually ends. Our family made it to a visitor center, where we stopped for a bathroom break and a snack. We think that was the end of the trail. The visitor center is relatively new, and the facilities are well-kept and pleasant. It’s a good place for a bathroom break especially if you have kids.
If you don’t need the bathroom, you can probably turn back before going all the way to the center. It’s a little inconvenient to get too, but the scenery in the area may be worth the trip.

このハイキングコースは2.2マイル(約3.5km)で、高低差もないので、気軽に行けるハイキングコースだと思います。小さなお子さん連れでなければ、半日もあれば十分です。なので、がっつりハイキングをしたい方には物足りなさを感じる可能性があります。
このトレイルの一番良かったのは、景色です。ハイキングコースは川に沿っており、途中で滝をみることができます。トレイルの幅はそんなに広くないので、混雑時は、人を交わしながらのハイキングになることが予想されます。木のトンネル、石でできた壁と階段、トレイルの終着点近いところでは、キャンプ場が近くにあるため広いプレイグラウンドもあります。ただ、どこがトレイルの終着点なのか、若干わかりづらいというのが所感です。我が家は、山頂にあるビジターセンターに行って、トイレ休憩。そこが終着かな？と思うようにしました。ビジターセンターは新しいので、トイレも心地よく使えると思います。お子さんがいる人は、ここでトイレをすませるといいかもしれません。
もしこのトレイルだけで物足りない人は、道中にあるトレイルに立ち寄ってもいいかもしれません。ちょっと行きづらい場所にありますが、景色は見る価値ありです！
