JADE LEGACY

Here is the review of Jade Legacy by Fonda Lee. This book is nominated for the World Fantasy Award for Best Novel, winner and it is the last sequel to Jade City.
Time goes so fast in this book and I felt like it is difficult for me to keep up though, I guess it was necessary because the author wanted to show how grow, change and adjust the Green Bone clan was. In addition to it, there are a lot of people in this book. I had a hard time to remember who was who. Be patient until almost the end.
I was about to cry when Hilo was at the edge of death. I didn’t see that he would be the firm and reliable leader of No Peak at the beginning.
These series taught me how important having the bond of family is. We tend to disregard the family nowadays, so I was impressed with his strong belief for people who he loves.
Here is one of my favorite sentences.
‘We all make mistakes. Sometimes terrible mistakes we can barely live with. But we learn from them. And maybe… Maybe we can forgive each other.’
Lots of incidents and disputes have happened recently in this world. We don’t need to win by force but need to forgive each other and also have to learn from the past. It’s precious to respect customs and culture, but we should not be afraid to adjust and change them.

Jade Legacy by Fonda Leeの感想を書きます。Jade Legacyは、Jade Cityの最終巻で、世界幻想文学大賞に選ばれています。
二巻と違い、最終巻は月日がどんどんすぎていきます。あまりに年月が過ぎ去っていくことに、抵抗を感じるほどでしたが、マフィアがどうやって形を変えていくのかを示すには、時間が必要だったと思うので、仕方ないのかなと思います。おまけにたくさんの登場人物が出てくるので、途中読むのをやめようかと思ったほどでした。
最後まで読んでよかったと思うのは、カウル家(No Peak)のヒロは、結局いい人だったんだ！っと、思えたところです。彼の最期は涙しました。
3巻を通してよかったと思ったのは、家族の絆の大切さを感じたことです。家族の結束が薄れてきている世の中だからこそ、ヒロの家族を想う気持ち、守りぬく姿勢は、息をのみました。
本の一説で気に入ったところがありました。「誰でも間違いを犯します。時々、私たちは耐えられないようなひどい間違いをすることがあります。しかし、私たちは過去の過ちから学びます。そしてもしかしたら…もしかしたらお互いを許せる日が来るかもしれない」まさにその通り！って納得しました。いろんな事件や紛争が世界で起こっています。力づくで勝ち取るのではなく、過去の過ちから学び、許し合うことも必要なのではないかと、強く思いました。そして、習慣や伝統を重んじることも大切だけど、臨機応変に対応し、変えていくことも必要だということを教えてもらったような気がします。
