The House in the Cerulean Sea

Here is the review of The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune. This book is a fantasy novel and it was nominated A NEW YORK TIMES, USA TODAY, and WASHINGTON POST BESTSELLER.
Linus Baker, who is a main character, is a by-the-book case worker in the Department in Charge of Magical Youth. When it comes to his work, he has been fair to judge an orphanage. One day, he was summoned by the Executive and given a highly classified assignment: travel to an orphanage on a distant island and determine whether six dangerous magical children are dangerous, and decide to shut down the orphanage led by Arthur Parnassus.
You will have a chance to think of what is family and bond between people and you will realize prejudice is not necessary. It was nice to see the changes of Linus through communications with 6 magical children.
I know it was a good and cute book, but I felt like it was overrated because it did feel a bit fast paced and unrealistic at last.

この本はファンタジー小説で、ニューヨークタイムズ、ワシントンポストでベストセラーとして紹介されています。主人公のライナス・ベーカーは魔法学校教育委員会の調査員です。仕事に対して、公平かつ冷静に淡々とこなしてきました。感情を挟まない彼の仕事ぶりは、上層部の目をひきます。そして、アーサー・パルナサスが率いる一種変わった孤児院の視察に一ヶ月間でかけ、この孤児院を継続させるべきかどうか決めるという、重要な任務を与えられます。
この本を読むと、家族とは何か、絆とは何かを感じる機会を得ることができると思います。また、偏見をもつことは、よくないことも再認識します。仕事には、私情を挟まないライナスが、子供たちとかかわっていく中で、人間らしく成長していく姿はほほえましいです。
ただ個人的に、高評価を得すぎなような気もしました。6人の子供たちは個々に愛らしいのですが、個人的には、話の結末が急展開に発展してしまっているような気がしました。恋愛話はいれてほしくなかったかなというのが、本音です。
