Saving Noah 

Here is the review of Saving Noah by Lucinda Berry. I decided to read it because I saw the comments you should read if you are a mom.
Noah is a high school student who is an A-honor roll student, award-winning swimmer and popular in school. One day, he confesses to molesting little girls during swim team practice. He’s sentenced to eighteen months in a juvenile sexual rehabilitation center.
When Noah is about to come back from the rehabilitation center, his mother, Adrianne, was rejected to welcome him to the house by her husband. She found an apartment near their house and decorated it for him so that he can start over his life again. She thinks about how she can protect him from the world over and over again. He, however, didn’t have the same thoughts she has.
This is a very short, intense and sad book. I couldn’t read it without tears. It made me think how society can accept rehabilitated criminals for real.
**It contains depictions of rape and suicide / suicidal ideation. If they are triggering to you, please skip this one. Mental health matters.

高校生のノアは、成績優秀、受賞歴のある水泳選手、そして人気者という完璧な少年ですが、水泳部の練習中に少女に性的虐待を加えたことを自白し、少年性虐待更生施設で18ヶ月の刑を宣告されます。
刑期終了後、母親のエイドリアンヌは、ノアと家族で一緒に暮らせることを楽しみにしてますが、夫は小さな娘もいるので、小児性愛症のノアを家に迎えることを拒みます。エイドリアンヌは、どうにかしてノアに元と同じような生活ができるように奮闘しますが、ノアは元の生活に戻ることを望みません。子供を愛する母として、どこまで子供の要望に応えてあげれるのか、どうやったら子供を守ることができるのかを模索します。
長編ではありませんが、緊張感のある本で、涙なしに読むことはできませんでした。更生した犯罪者をどうやって社会は受け入れるのか、考えさせられました。メンタルヘルスに問題がある人にはおすすめできませんが、たしかに、子を持つ母親には読んでもらいたい本かな。
