These Silent Woods

Here is the review of These Silent Woods by Kimi Cunningham Grant. This book is a suspense fiction.
A father, Cooper, and daughter, Finch, living in the remote Appalachian mountains, which is no electricity, no family, no connection to the outside world. They have lived in isolation in a remote cabin in the northern Appalachian woods for 8 years. That’s exactly the way Cooper wants it, because he’s got a lot to hide. The only people who know they exist are a mysterious local hermit named Scotland, and Cooper’s old friend, Jake, who visits each winter to bring them food and supplies. But this year, Jake doesn’t show up, setting off an irreversible chain of events that reveals just how precarious their situation really is.
After a girl disappears in their woods, Cooper is forced to decide whether to keep hiding—or finally face the sins of his past. I could understand how he felt because I’m also a parent. He says “becoming a parent- it makes something inside of your bloom and deepen. You love as you haven’t loved before’.
You will come to think what is the border between sin, fear and love, justice.

この本はサスペンス、ミステリー小説です。アパラチア山脈の奥深くで住んでいる父と娘の話です。
8年前、父親のクーパーは罪と恐怖から逃避するために、娘のフィンチを連れて、人里離れたアパラチア山脈の中にある小屋に引越してきました。この二人がここに住んでいるのを知っているのは、近所に住んでいるスコットランド、そして小屋の持ち主のジェイクだけです。ジェイクは毎年12月14日に一年分の物資を運んできてくれますが、今年はその日になってもとうとう現れませんでした。
そこから、クーパーとフィンチの生活に変化が起きます。二人が住んでいた山の中で、女の子が失踪します。それがきっかけで、クーパーが娘と築いたすべてを失いそうになります。彼はこのまま現実から逃避し続けるのか、それとも過去の罪と直面すべきか考えます。私もクーパーと同じ「親」という立場なので、彼の気持ちが痛いほど分かりました。クーパーはこういいます。「親になると、今までなかったほどに誰かを愛する」と。涙が出ました。
罪と恐怖、愛情と正義の境界線って何だろうと考えされられる一冊です。
