A Fall of Marigolds

Here is the review of A Fall of Marigolds by Susan Meissner. I heard this book is page turner, so I decided to read it.
The book tells the story of two women living a century apart, connected by a scarf and shared grief. Clara Wood, a nurse on Ellis Island in 1911, is troubled by the loss of the man she loved in the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire. Taryn Michaels tries to cope with life and raise her daughter alone after her husband dies in the collapse of the World Trade Towers. The scarf binds them together and gives them the strength to acknowledge the truth that life must go on. The scarf tells us that our lives move forward and change us whether we like it or not. Life is short and only one time. We have to rejoice today and be happy.

A Fall of Marigolds by Susan Meissnerの感想を書きます。ヒストリカルフィクションが読みたくて、この本を選びました。
ストーリーは、1911年と2011年で話が同時進行していきます。1911年、クレアは、大事な人をトライアングル・シャツウェスト工場火災で大切な人を亡くし、悲しみをうめるためにエリス島で看護師として働いています。そのときにマリーゴールド色のスカーフをした男性に出会います。
2011年、タリンは9.11で旦那を亡くし、女手一つで娘を育てている中で、マリーゴールド色のスカーフを手にします。
この二人の主人公は、100年の時差がありますが、共通の悲しみを持っていて、同じスカーフに結び付けられます。このスカーフが教えてくれることは、人生は、好むと好まざるとにかかわらず、常に前を向いて前進し、自分自身を変えていくことの大切さだと思います。一度しかない人生、毎日を楽しまないといけないということに気づかされる一冊です。
