Fox

Here is the review of Fox by Joyce Carol Oates. I decided to read it because I saw the comments that this book is beautifully written.
A charming English teacher new to the Langhorne Academy, is very popular among the elite students and their parents. One day, his car half-submerged in a pond in a local nature preserve and parts of an unidentified body strewn about the nearby woods. The Detective Horace Zwender and his deputy begin to ask people disturbing questions about Francis Fox and who he might really be.
I was annoyed at first because it contains child sexual abuse, but I kept reading it as there are some high reviews and the author is a recipient of National Humanities Medal awarded by President Barack Obama. I guess it was good to read through the whole pages and it was well constructed, but it was dark and heavy for me.

Fox by Joyce Carol Oatesの感想を書きます。サスペンス本でよく書けているというコメントを見たので読むことにしました。
私立の学校、ラングホーン・アカデミーに赴任してきた魅力的な英語教師のフォックス先生は、エリート校の生徒やその両親をも虜にしてしまう、すごく人気のある先生ですが、地元の自然保護区の池に半分沈んだフォックスの車と、近くの森に散乱する身元不明の遺体の一部を発見され、刑事が事件の真相を突き止めていく中でフォックス先生が一体どんな人だったのかが見えてきます。
読み始めは、読むのも嫌になるぐらい嫌になる内容でしたが、数々の高レビューを目にしていたので、我慢して読み続けました。結果、最後まであきらめずに読んでよかったという達成感、そして確かに描写が細かく、きれいに書かれていたかなと思いました。私もミドルスクールの子を持つ親なので、自分の状況に重ね合わせた時、すごくリアルでダークな部分に恐怖心を覚えさせられました。そういう意味では、よく書けた本だったのかな。ただ、好みのサスペンス小説（児童性的虐待が含まれてます）ではなかったというのが、正直なところです。
