Schwartz’s Deli is a Montreal landmark where you can eat smoked meat. It was founded in 1928 by Reuben Schwartzs, a Jewish immigrant from Romania and still remains the same place. You can see a lot of pictures showing the celebrities on the wall when they visit here. I heard that there are always a lot of people who come to eat and wait in line, but we were lucky that we didn’t need to wait. If there is a line, you have to wait outside but not inside.
There are a good amount of dining tables in a small place and might be a chance to eat with someone else when it is busy. Sometimes you feel their service is not good, but I think they are too busy to care for the customers.
If you can’t choose which dish you want to eat, just try the recommendations. There is a highly recommended menu above the counter. If my memory is correct, the 4 is the smoked meat sandwich which a lot of people try to eat at first. It doesn’t come with salad, so you can also order Sauerkraut and pickles as the side.
Before eating, I was afraid that the meat was greasy. On the contrary, it was dry and tasty. The balance of spices and salt was excellent. Usually I hesitate to eat mustard, but I enjoyed it this time. It had a good accent that tasted a bit sour. According to their website, meat is marinated for 10 days; smoked overnight, steamed all day; and smoked meat contains no preservatives.
If you are used to American sizes of food, it might be a small portion. I recommend going there to have lunch or a snack.

スモークミートのサンドイッチが食べられるデリカテッセンです。（イートイン可能）ユダヤ人移民、ルーベン シュワルツによって 1928 年に設立され、95年もの間同じ場所でお店を構えているようです。店内に入ると、有名人と思われる人が写った写真が壁一面に貼られています。下調べをしていると、かなり並ぶということだったのですが、我が家が訪れた金曜の午後5時前後は比較的すいていました。もしお客さんが並んでいる場合は、店内で待たず、外で待つのがルールのようです。
店内は所狭しとテーブルが並べられ、時間や人数によっては相席になる可能性があります。店員さんは最初ぶっきらぼうに感じられますが、それも愛嬌なのでしょう。店の回転をよくしたいと思うので、致し方ありませんね。メニューをみても分かりづらい場合は、カウンター上にあるメニューの１～5のうちから選ぶといいと思います。ちなみにこの店の売り、スモークサンド一致は、4番です。付け合わせのサラダはついていないので、ピクルスやザワークラウト等を一緒に頼むといいかもしれません。
見た目、脂っこくて胃もたれをおこすのではと心配していましたが、食感は驚くほどさっぱり、ドライで、挟んであるマスタードがいい酸味でした。（ちなみに私は普段マスタードは苦手で食べません）保存料も入っていないので、お子さんにも安心して食べられます。
アメリカの量になれていると、量は少なく感じるかもしれません。夕食というより、ランチや小腹がすいたときにおすすめです。
