Before We Were Strangers

Here is the review of Before We Were Strangers by Renée Carlino. I wanted to read a book set in NYC, so I chose this.
There are 2 points of view from Matt and Grace in this book. Matt lives in the NYU dorm room next to Grace at Senior House and they fell in love with Grace. Matt accepts an internship in South America. When he came back, she was gone without saying anything.
It passed 15 years after then and Matt took a glance at Grace on the thick yellow line that runs along the subway platform, waiting for the F train. He didn’t know it was her until it was too late. He recalls his sweet memories and is eager to see her again face to face.
It was a college student romance and there are some beautiful lines, but I didn’t like the plot. It wasn’t very heartfelt to me.

マットとグレイスの二人の視点で、話は進んでいきます。二人はNYUの寮の部屋が隣通しになり恋に落ちます。しかし、マットがインターンシップから帰ってくると、グレイスは寮から姿を消し、連絡が取れなくなってしまいます。それから15年経ったある日、マットは地下鉄でグレイスを見つけます。気づいたときにはすでに遅し。グレイスは電車の中なので、話を交わすことなく二人はまた引き裂かれます。それから、マットは昔の想いがよみがえり、どうしもグレイスと再会したいと思い、奮闘します。
表現がよかったり、頭の中でNYCを思い浮かべながら読める点は楽しめました。ただ個人的にはなぜ評価が高いのか理解できませんでした。ありふれたロマンスって感じで、内容が薄かったです。
