The Book of Doors

Here is the review of The Book of Doors by Gareth Brown. I found this book at one of my favorite bookstores, Rough Draft Bar & Books, read the caption and was keen to read. Here is the quotation that lured me.

I like fantasy books in general, but this is not the one for me because I am too logical about time travel. I couldn’t help being disappointed because the caption was too captivating. Here are sentences that I liked. “Happiness is not something you sit and wait for. You have to choose it and pursue it in spite of everything else.” “Don’t waste your life hidden away in your own mind. Make the most of the time you have, otherwise before you know it, you’ll have no time left.”

The Book of Doors by Gareth Brownの感想を書きます。私の好きな本屋さんの一つ、Rough Draft Bar & Booksでこの本をみつけ、あらすじを読んで、読むことにしました。惹きつけられた注釈はこちら。
主人公のキャシー・アンドリューは、ニューヨークにあるカフェ併設の本屋さんで働いていて、平凡な毎日を送っていました。ある日の閉店前、彼女のお気に入りのお客さんの老人ウェーバーと話しながら、店を閉める準備をしていると、さっきまで一緒に話していたおじいさんが動かなくなって、亡くなります。そして、テーブルの下に、キャシーにあてたメッセージが書かれた、茶色の本革のカバーのついた小さな本をキャシーはみつけます。そして、キャシーはこれは普通の本ではないことに、帰宅してから気づきます。
ファンタジーの本は好きなので、その点はよかったのですが、個人的にタイムトラベルの話は理論的に考えてしまうので、好みません。期待した分、少し物足りなさを感じたのが正直なところです。好きな文章は以下です。「幸せとは、座って待っている何かではないから、自ら追求しなければならない」「自分の心の中に隠れて、人生を無駄にしないで。時間を最大限に活用しないと、いつの間にか時間がなくなってしまうよ」っていうところがよかったかな。
