If you love bread, you’ve probably heard of this place before. The bakery has made the list of places to go at least once before you die for its exquisite bread and pastries. There is now a location in Los Angeles, but when I lived on the West Coast the only location they had in America was in San Francisco. When I had the chance to go, I remember being so excited that I could not sleep the night before. That was how big of a deal this was for me. However, my goal was to get some country bread, which comes out of the oven at 4:30 p.m. each day. If I recall correctly, the bread comes out at this time so that people can buy freshly baked bread to enjoy for dinner. It spoke to me of an American lifestyle that revolved around this bread.
\u3000Our family visited twice, once for breakfast, and then again on the way home so that we could pick up some country bread to take home with us. I had heard that people line up early at the bakery, so we went there first thing in the morning. All of the breakfast breads and pastries were on display in the case, and there was bread stacked up on closely packed tables (people would take their seats after ordering).
\u3000There were a lot of people having croissants for breakfast. I’m not a big fan of croissants myself so I can’t comment, but since they were flying off the shelves it might be a good one to try when you visit. When I watched my daughter eat one, I saw the layers were arranged beautifully, and it looked light and crispy. They were also selling merchandise in case you wanted to take home a souvenir. 
\u3000Then, there was the country bread. We were able to buy some fresh out of the oven! We took home a loaf piping hot in a paper bag. The aroma filled the car with an amazing fragrance. It had a hint of a smoky aroma, and it may be misleading, but it was hard to believe that a sourdough could be that soft, and smell that good. We sliced the bread after it had cooled. It had a good looking crumb, and the dough was fresh and lively. The bread was chewy to bite into, and instantly filled me with happiness. It was good with soup, and also by itself with some butter. I would think it would be good used in sandwiches, but since we did not have a slicer to cut the bread into sandwich slice thickness, we had open-face sandwiches. In actuality, since then I have found a bakery that has surpassed Tartine, so my image of it has lessened a bit, but if I have the chance I would like to buy the country bread one more time. Also, since they released a recipe book, I can make similar bread at home. I have tried making it, however it is difficult to get the same delicious sourness as the bakery, however the country bread I can break at home is suitably delicious. If you want to try bread from a top-ranked bakery, give this a try.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
